Darryl celebrated his 5th year with SSi this May, and has been an integral part of the team, working as our Production Operations Manager. We greatly appreciate his vast array of knowledge, his hard-working attitude, and his unwavering dedication.

We connected with Darryl and asked him to answer some personal questions about himself, and here is what we found:

What does your role at SSi encompass and in what circumstance would someone come to you?

My role at SSi is the Production Operations Manager. This consists of production, coordination based on forecasted sales, inventory control, procurement, and giving assistance to our design engineers and technical service department. I have a wide array of knowledge on almost any item related to Oil & Gas. You can ask me anything about valves, controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, rod lifting, compressors, HVAC, and steam generation.

What is your favourite local restaurant?

My favourite local restaurant would be Caesars in Willow Park, Calgary.

What is your go-to productivity trick?

I can’t say that I really have a go-to productivity trick as I am self-motivated and realize that procrastination is the thief of time.

What is your most loved place in the world and why?

My most loved place in the world would be Canada! Canada has been my home since I was born, and it has treated me very well. I couldn’t think of a better place to be!

What is one thing (other than your smartphone) that you can’t leave your house without?

Giving my daughter a hug and a kiss before I leave. Anything after that is insignificant and material. Oh, and my wallet and truck keys help to get to work! LOL

What is the first concert you ever went to?

The first concert I ever went to was The Rolling Stones.

What are you reading now?

The book I’m currently reading is ‘The Fundamentals of Electric Propulsion’.

What is your favourite sport to watch?

Boxing is my favourite sport to watch.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I was a farm boy when I was a kid. At that point in time, I didn’t think of anything other than carrying on with the family farm.

If you could write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?

The title of my book would be “There is Always Better, Don’t Settle for Second Best”.

What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?

One of the things that I am trying to make a habit is a better work-life balance. I’m also teaching my daughter to box, and potentially become competitive in the sport.

What is your hometown and where do you currently live?

I was born in Parkhill, Ontario, and currently reside in Calgary, AB. I spend a lot of my weekends in Kelowna, BC.

What do you enjoy most about working at SSi?

Life is a lot more relaxed at SSi when compared to the typical Oil & Gas companies I’ve worked for. The people are very friendly and welcoming, and there is diverse knowledge throughout the company, which makes life a lot simpler when you need help. There are very few barriers when it comes to being able to do your job.

Thanks, Darryl, for all that you do!
